Queen’s Park has confirmed the return of Irish youth international Luca Connell on a one-season loan from Celtic last night, prompting a jubilant response from Spiders fans on Twitter.

While some expected the former Bolton youngster to be around Angel Postecoglou’s first team at Celtic Park this season, Connell has instead been a regular in the Lowland League for Team B.

Speaking after the confirmation of his return, Connell said it was an “easy decision” to return to Queen’s Park as they pushed for a second consecutive promotion after shooting full time and relinquishing their status as a longtime enthusiast.

“I am delighted to be back,” said Connell. “I really enjoyed my time at the club last season and know most of the boys so when the opportunity arose to come back it was an easy decision to make. I can’t wait to get started.

Queen’s Park boss Laurie Ellis has been keen to bring the Irishman back for some time now with Connell in line to make his second debut for the Spiders this afternoon when they face Clyde at Broadwood.

“We have wanted to bring Luca back to the club for some time now. He made a great contribution to our campaign last season and has great attributes to add to the squad. We are delighted that he wants to be here and that the club has made it possible. He already knows most of the group and has settled down brilliantly.
